DofE-Bronze-Award-Event-2018

Parents, governors, and representatives from the PTA, all celebrated the success of the first recipients of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

On Thursday 11th January 2018, Egglescliffe School parents, governors, and representatives from the PTA, all celebrated the success of the first recipients of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

29 students from the 2016-2017 cohort have successfully completed and received their Bronze certificates and badges. They undertook 12-24 weeks of personal development through volunteering experience, physical fitness, and learning a new skill, giving up three hours a week to extend their capabilities and their futures.

As well as this, the students have worked together to successfully complete two expeditions in the local lowland countryside, negotiating soaring heat, countless blisters, and several fields of cows!

Mrs Dianne Williams, Deputy Headteacher, led the presentation by talking about her own personal experiences of completing the DofE herself, as well as how it influenced her love of learning and future career as a Geography teacher.

Miss Ghost, Duke of Edinburgh Manager at the school, talked of her pride at seeing the students grow over the course of the year, and how the skills that students have developed through the DofE have helped shape them now and hopefully into the future.

Headmaster, Mr White, thanked the PTA for its financial support in launching the DofE at Egglescliffe, without which it would not have been possible to run. He also thanked the staff and volunteers who give up their time in order to support the programme, and praised it as valuable and influential in many young people's lives at the school.

The next round of applications for the Bronze Award at Egglescliffe will open to current year 8 students after Easter.
