Saturday 27th January 2018

Egglescliffe Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award students left school bright and early on Saturday 27th January to complete their first day walk.

The day walk, part of the programme of training offered by the silver programme through the school, consisted of a 14km circular route beginning and ending in Reeth, in the Yorkshire Dales.

The route involved the students navigating and negotiating a range of terrains, including towns, moorland, forests, hills, and rivers. Despite the rain and cold conditions, the students successfully completed their training in map reading, check off features, compass bearings and pacing.

This is the first silver award day walk to take place at Egglescliffe for several years, and the first for this cohort, who will complete their second at the end of February. All training walks are preparation for expeditions the students will complete in the Peak District.
