February 2018

Since returning after the Christmas holidays, our students have continued to get involved in a wide range of activities that develop their knowledge of Global and regional issues, as well as growing in confidence when presenting their experiences to a range of audiences. It has been my privilege to attend the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award evening and the Nepal presentation evening which was enlightening, humbling and emotional.

Following another year of outstanding GCSE and A level results we offer our congratulations to the students who worked so hard throughout their time at Egglescliffe School. The number of grade 9’s achieved in English and maths are the highest across Stockton, Tees Valley and the North East. The year has started with great focus to ensure all learners make the best possible start. This has been underpinned by our “back to basics”, where we have expectations for learning, behaviour and contribution to the school. We have introduced a core values statement based on RESPECT.

This term we have enjoyed a myriad of activities including some superb personal and team achievements that have showcased academic, sporting and wider skills. We continue to think locally, nationally and globally when it comes to fund raising with lots of philanthropic activities taking place this term. We are also particularly proud of our 25 new Language Ambassadors who are now focusing on the celebration of language and cultural diversity school and community wide. This will also feed into our bid to become a ‘School of Sanctuary’, which is developing daily.

As I write this welcome for the Christmas edition of our Egglescliffe Edge, the Christmas tree is now up in the student reception and students are preparing for our Christmas assembly and music evening. I feel so proud that the students continue to show their care and commitment to so many charities, particularly at this time of year. The ‘wear a Christmas jumper’ day will raise money for a local charity, Zoe’s Place. Throughout this term we continue the excellent work both academically and personally; we are finishing this term with the superb news that Egglescliffe Sixth Form College was ranked 1st in Tees Valley, 2nd in the North East and 38th nationally in the Sunday Times top performing schools in the comprehensive category.
