Our information report of our school local offer can be found within the SEND information on the school website. This is written as part of Stockton on Tees Borough Council's Local Offer for children and young people with Special Educational Needs.

Information throughout this policy is in reference to ‘section 69 of the Children and Families Act 2014’, section 6 of the Special Educational needs and disability code of practice:0 – 25 years, regulation 51 and schedule 1 of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014. 

 At Egglescliffe School we recognise that every child is individual and all Students are entitled to a quality of provision that will enable them to be happy, stay safe and achieve their true potential both academically and with their skills for life. We believe in inclusion and positive intervention, removing barriers to learning, raising expectations and levels of achievement and progress and we work closely in partnership with other agencies to provide a positive educational experience for all our Students including those with a special educational need or disability. 

Egglesclliffe School has an accessibility policy as related to paragraph 3 of schedule 10 to the Equality Act 2010. 

Egglescliffe school site is a large, complex site spread over a large distance but does have the required access for all children. I t has ramp access to all areas of the school, a life to access the Art department. The school supports the access to specialist chairs required by some children and these are made accessible to children at all times to ensure their needs are met irrespective of where they are accessing lessons in school. There are disabled toilets across the school site and a medical room located close to student services. 

TA support is allocated with regard to a child’s individual needs in support of all the access arrangements they require. 

As the Science block is over three floors student timetables are developed to ensure that children with disabilities have access to their lessons and teachers in a ground floor laboratory. 

Evac Chairs are positioned in key locations across the school site. 

Key staff are involved in the writing of health care plans and risk assessments in conjunction with parents/carers, students, professionals. 

Regular training occurs for staff relating to areas such as First Aid, Team Teach and Epi pen training. Staff are always asking professionals working with children through the medical services to support school staff with training in order to work together and better support a child’s needs. 

Our school ethos recognises there are particular groups of Students whose needs and  circumstances require additional consideration and support by everyone in our school community in order to support them both academically ( removing barriers to learning)  and with skills for life and preparing for adulthood.
At Egglescliffe School we ensure that all Students are fully included and supported to ensure that, regardless of their specific needs, they make the best possible progress academically and socially and emotionally. Students are supported to access all trips, visits and additional enrichment activities. 

We have our 'Endeavour Suite' which is being developed further as our support base for children who may require support from the SENDCO, Deputy SENDCo or one of our experienced TAs or mentors. This areas is staffed all the time and children may access this when anxious and not able to attend lessons full time whilst still being able to keep up with work from lessons. They may also access the base if they need some 'reflection time' away from a lesson or situation, if they are struggling with sensory overload and if they are needing 1:1 time with a member of staff. The Endeavour Suite is a where a child  can come from early in the morning, at break and lunchtime if they need to attend interventions, homework support or just time to have a warm drink and settle into the day. Within the Endeavour Suite we have a teaching area where some children may have lessons taught by the same teacher most of the time as they develop confidence, literacy and numeracy skills to support them as the transition into Year 7. These children will however, also access lessons across the school in different curriculum areas at different times.

Children can also access the Endeavour Suite if they want to just sit and read, do homework or join one of our lunchtime activities if they are anxious about the 'busy' break and lunchtimes.

This is in line with the code of practice and disability and equality acts.

There are four broad areas of SEND, these are:

  • Communication and Interaction
    This area of need includes children with Autism Spectrum Condition ( across the range of the spectrum) and those with Speech, Language and Communication Needs. 
  • Cognition and Learning
    This includes children with Specific Learning Difficulties, learning difficulties relating to literacy and numeracy, Severe Learning Difficulties and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties.
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
    This includes any Students who have an emotional, social or mental health need that is impacting on their ability to learn
  • Sensory and/or Physical Difficulties
    This area includes children with specific OT needs, sensory processing needs, hearing impairment, visual impairment, multi-sensory impairment and physical difficulties.
