Outstanding Opportunities at Egglescliffe Sixth Form

Enrichment Wednesdays

At Egglescliffe we recognise that employers and universities are now looking for much more than just academic qualifications. To take account of this we offer a fantastic enrichment programme which takes place every Wednesday afternoon. Students are off timetable and have an opportunity to take part in a number of activities some which lead to an additional academic qualification. The activities include:

  • Extended Project Qualification
  • Emergency First Aid Qualification
  • Student Magazine - Arts Award
  • Forensic Society
  • Debating Society
  • Charity work at Teesside Hospice
  • Sign Language
  • Spanish
  • Sport

Students also use Wednesday afternoons to gain some work experience. Placements have included primary schools, law firms, hospitals and local businesses.

Personal Development

We offer a range of opportunities that will help you to develop interests and skills which will prove invaluable in later life. Students have the opportunity to join the Leaders in Learning Programme which involves participation in lower school lessons e.g. helping year 7 pupils with their literacy and numeracy skills. We have a thriving sports programme available to students. The team sports are well catered for with hockey, volleyball and netball. Students can play competitively in these areas and the Sixth Form hockey team has reached National finals consistently over the past six years. However, students can play sport on a more social level e.g. the five aside league leading to the ’Gratton’ cup. We also host quiz nights throughout the year which are hugely popular with our students.

Clubs and Societies

Dedicated teachers, staff and students run a wealth of clubs and societies outside of lessons which will allow you to explore your more creative side. Drama productions throughout the year involve Sixth Form students either performing or assisting with the technical work. Music plays a huge role in the life of the school and Sixth Form students are encouraged to develop their talents by joining one of the many ensembles. Other societies include the film club, forensic society and Young Enterprise activities. Students also compete in a range of competitions including the United Kingdom Aerospace Youth Rocketry Challenge.

Educational Trips

We run a host of educational trips throughout the year, from short excursions to London, the Geography fieldtrip to Cranedale, international tours to Paris, Geneva and New York.

World Challenge

A group of students participate in a World Challenge expedition to Kenya. While there, our students complete community projects such as helping to construct classrooms in orphanages. There is a requirement to raise the money to fund the expedition, which helps our students to be responsible and resourceful.

Expedition to Tanzania

A group of students are set to embark upon an expedition to Tanzania where they will complete a community project, go on safari and climb the world famous Kilomanjaro. Again there is a requirement that the students organise fundraising events to subsidise the trip.

Student Led Societies and Commitees

There are a number of clubs and societies led by Sixth Form students, which is something we encourage and reward. It is important to us that our students have a voice, and many important aspects of our Sixth Form community are led by students. These include our Prom Committee, who play an integral role in the organisation of our end of Year 13 function, and most importantly, our Charity Committee, who coordinate a vast array of fund raisers and help the wider community.

Charity Work

Here at Egglescliffe Sixth Form there is a real sense of community spirit. We are strongly committed to supporting charity work and having fun whilst raising money. Students are encouraged to take part in a range of events throughout their time at Sixth Form. This year alone the students have participated in a sponsored fancy dress workout for Lepra, an X Factor style concert to raise money for Children in Need and have hosted a coffee morning to promote awareness of Macmillan cancer support.
