It is vital to our success as a nation that we are able to communicate with people from other nations and that we learn to understand and appreciate the variety of languages and cultures that exist in the world. 

We try here at Egglescliffe in our teaching to foster an interest in language learning in general and to give our pupils a broader awareness of the world at large by learning foreign languages.

We have an active and successful Modern Languages Department, staffed by a mixture of experienced and younger staff. Our teachers are lively, talented and enthusiastic about language learning. We all teach using laptops, digital projectors and interactive whiteboards and all pupils will use ICT as a major tool for language learning, by using the Modern Languages ICT suite.

We are currently able to offer French and German in all key stages, taught by a team of seven specialist teachers:
