Welcome to Egglescliffe Sixth FormEgglescliffe is as very lively, high achieving sixth form. It has been described in the Good Schools Guide as “effervescent” and “busy from dawn ‘till dusk”. 60% of our own year 11 students choose to join the sixth form, in addition to a number of students from a range of 11-16 schools in the Stockton area. We aim to give a high quality experience for everyone and we place a high premium on our friendly, purposeful atmosphere. In recent years both Egglescliffe School and the Sixth Form have gone from strength to strength. The most recent Ofsted inspection reports (2005 and 2008) have praised the work of the sixth form in all its dimensions. Students benefit from our designation as a Specialist School for Performing Arts because this has enhanced both our facilities and the opportunities for involvement in Music, Media, Drama and Dance. We also have a second specialism for Science and Mathematics which has enabled us to refurbish all our science laboratories. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Further Mathematics are all very popular and very successful options in Egglescliffe Sixth Form. Above All Egglescliffe students are very successful. Students regularly gain places at Oxford, Cambridge and Russell group universities. Sixth form study within a school environment is a very popular and successful option for many students. We are proud of our examination results which are consistently well above local and national averages. In the last five years there has been 100% pass rate at A2 level. Smaller classes and individual guidance combined with an enjoyable, challenging atmosphere is a winning formula. You are very welcome to find out more by arranging a visit at any time. |

Life in the Sixth FormExcellent teaching with all the motivation and support you need….
The Sixth Form is more than a learning environment – it is a place where students are encouraged to realise their full potential. We have well qualified, talented teachers who will challenge you and expect you to work hard. Our examination results prove that our students thrive in this environment and nearly all go on to succeed at degree level. Together with subject teachers, you will develop a close partnership with your tutor. They will help you to become an independent learner who can take responsibility for your own progress and decision making. Regular academic monitoring allows you to assess your strengths and weaknesses, while setting targets for improvement. This system has been highly praised by Ofsted for motivating and supporting students so effectively. Our tutorial system provides effective guidance and enhances our caring ethos. You will receive an annual report and parents’ evenings offer an opportunity for your parents to meet subject teachers and tutors. |

There’s something for everyone at Egglescliffe Sixth Form …There are many opportunities to participate in a range of sports. Our astro-turf pitch is one of the best in the area and this allows team sports to be played at the highest levels. Sports such as hockey, rugby, football, 5-a-side and netball are all open to sixth form students together with individual fitness training, aerobics and sports such as badminton. If you enjoy Music, Drama or Dance then Egglescliffe Sixth form is the place for you. There are drama productions every term and weekly dance classes. We have an award winning brass band, choir and orchestra. Our Soul Band and jazz quartet have both won national recognition. Musicians are selected to play, annually, in the Festival of Music for Youth in Birmingham. Visual Arts are equally as strong with students exhibiting their work in public exhibitions and working with professional artists in school. Young Enterprise companies flourish within the Sixth Form and some have had considerable success in local and regional competitions. Work placements in business or industry are increasingly popular as they support students in their career choice and university applications. Charitable events are a big part of student life and lots of money is raised for causes such as Lepra. Science and Maths competitions are very popular, in addition to fieldwork courses, theatre trips and European visits. The 6th form visit to Paris is a very successful trip for students of Modern Languages. There are lots of opportunities to engage with younger students in the school. Students enjoy the sixth form and they run their own Sixth Form Council which organises a range of social events. |

Preparation for the futureDuring the Sixth Form you will be making some very important decisions about your future. Our careers programme, delivered through the tutorial system, is designed to support you in making these decisions. A Careers Convention is held in school at the end of year 12 which is designed to provide information on entry to university and a range of professions. Mr Gratton and his tutors provide comprehensive advice on the completion and submission of UCAS forms for entry to university. |
