MAXWELL'S EQUATIONS
1860

These four equations unify the whole of classical electromagnetism. Thus Maxwell successfully completed the first Unified Field Theory. The operator D is a partial derivative, ( a 3 dimensional version of d/dx ), so we see that the equations involve rates of change with respect to time as well as three spatial co-ordinates. Mixing of the Electric (E) and Magnetic (B)  fields is apparent from casual observation , the one transforming into the other depending on relative motion of field source and observer. These four equations can be written even more compactly in tensor notation where they reduce to just twofrom which the whole theory of light as a wave may be constructed..
