| In 1926 the Austrian physicist discovered this central equation of QUANTUM MECHANICS .It is a wave equation for a quantum object of total energy E travelling in a potential, V. From this , solutions for the energy of electrons in the atom may be found. This is the foundation stone upon which the whole of chemistry is then constructed. It is not relativistically correct, however,having been constructed using the Newtonian form for kinetic energy. A relativistically correct version had to wait for Paul Dirac . |
