Paul Adrien Maurice Dirac (1902 - 1984)
'Genius and Recluse'

Paul Dirac , working almost in isolation in Cambridge, England, derived an equation that correctly describes the motion of an ELECTRON - the simplest object in physics. His 'Dirac Equation' utilised the newly developed theory of Quantum Mechanics in full harmony with Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity. Dirac's Equation predicted the existence of the positron, an antimatter particle. The existence of antimatter was confirmed by experiment in 1932. The Dirac equation stands alone as a work of art of the first magnitude.
